This school year Mount Vernon has launched two enhanced learning management systems to provide stronger communication among teachers, students, and parents. In the Preschool, Lower School, and Middle School, teachers are utilizing a web-based resource called Schoology. This 21st century platform allows students, parents, and teachers to connect with each other in a safe and secure atmosphere. Each student and teacher has a unique username and password to access the site and share resources with others in his/her class. Schoology allows teachers to share lesson plans, pictures, videos, and other resources with students and parents. Students will be able to post to class discussions, submit assignments, and create an electronic portfolio. In the Middle School students created their own accounts the first week of school, and they are encouraged to share their log-in credentials with their parents.
Mount Vernon’s Upper School launched the web-based platform called Haiku, which offers many of the same features as Schoology including the option to post to a wiki, which is a blank website template whereby students and/or teachers can contribute files, research, web links, video, and more. Project teams can now easily share their respective portions of a project by posting it on a wiki site that other team members and teachers can access.
As with any technology-based tool learning the various features and tips take a little time which is why we have provided many helpful resources below for the School community.
