Last Saturday Mount Vernon’s 5th/6th grade football team opened the season crushing the Mt. Paran Eagles. Within the first two minutes of the game, the Mustangs scored a touchdown, a telltale sign they would completely own the competition. New to Mount Vernon this year, sixth grader Austin Douglas dominated by scoring the opening touchdown and three additional TDs. Another notable play was made with just two minutes left in the first half. Jack Mullen caught a pass thrown by Parker Corley bringing the Mustangs to 32-6. Sharing pride, Coach Patrick Coffield says, “With Mt. Paran being the defending champions, we knew we had a tough task ahead of us. All of the boys stepped up to the challenge. They played hard and made the coaches very proud.” The final score of the game: 38-12. Way to go Mustangs!
