Arts

Welcome

Artists are innovators. They are curious. From Leonardo Di Vinci to Ludwig Van Beethoven, we know that the artist’s mind is one that works creatively to innovateby making profound inquires about the world around them, impacting the way everyone else gets to experience life.

At Mount Vernon, we take that one step further. By exposing our students to a wide range of visual and performing arts and then asking how they can use those experiences and skills to transform our community, students are given the tools to become extraordinary worldchangers.

The Arts are not just a piece of the Mount Vernon experience, they are fundamental. Beginning in Preschool, the arts are integrated into each subject area and are used as a means for crossdisciplinary collaboration. Walking through the halls of our school, it is not uncommon to see, hear and talk about The Arts as they permeate and enhance our
curriculum across grade levels, disciplines and divisions.

Our faculty of artists are professionals who have a passion for inspiring students. We see students as fellow artists who have unique and valuable ideas to build upon. While we are excited about developing skills in drawing, painting, photography sculpture, dance, acting, musicianship and design, we know that great art breaks the rules so we create space for students to be imaginative, ask their own questionsand find creative solutions. The pairing of exceptional artists with exceptional teachers/mentors is what makes the faculty/student collaboration at MVPS nurturingand empowering.

What makes Mount Vernon unique is each student’s ability to encounter visual art, music, dance and theater, as they are uniquely woven throughout each day. Here, journeying into the world of art means journeying into the world! Each year, our artists find themselves beyond the classroom as they use art to engage with local, national and international communities. From annual trips to the SCAD Chalk Competition in Savannah, to performances at theme parks, to theater competitions and cultural trips to ChicagoNew Orleans and New York, students are sharing their art as they
collaborate and explore the many ways arts shape our world

We hope you are able to experience MVPS for yourself and learn why it is a place where:
  • Artists are innovators.
  • Arts are interdisciplinary.
  • Faculty inspire and empower studentartists.
  • Opportunities abound.
  • Students share art with their world.
Have a creative day!
