Dr. Jacobsen hosts parent gatherings called (i)Connections to dialogue about the strategic plan specifically related to the mission statement, “preparing all students to be college ready, globally competitive, and engaged citizen leaders.
CURRICULUM NIGHTS FOR PARENTS
Faculty and Administrators meet with parents to outline the options for each student regarding their course of study. Parents are able to gain a greater understanding of what their child needs academically to make them college ready and globally competitive.
MEN OF MOUNT VERNON MONTHLY MEETINGS
The Men of Mount Vernon is a collection of men who have ties to Mount Vernon Presbyterian either through current students or graduates. The primary objective is to assist Mount Vernon in ways which help the entire Mount Vernon community. This group seeks to involve as many men as possible who can help foster a sense of leadership, be great role models on campus and in the community, create a sense of community among families in a diverse school population, and encourage all fathers and students to be the role models God has chosen them to be.
Joe Kissack, author of “The Fourth Fisherman” spoke at the inaugural meeting in October. Kissack is also a speaker, screenwriter, publisher and film and television producer.
FALL MEETING FOR PARENTS ON DUKE TIP
Nicole Martin and Marsha Powell hosted an informative meeting on the benefits of participation in the Duke Tip program. There are numerous scholastic opportunities for students to learn with other gifted learners such as camps and seminars. Admission to the Duke Tip program is based on ITBS and ERB scores.
JANUARY STUDY SKILLS SEMINAR FOR 4TH AND 5TH GRADE PARENTS
The academic resources department hosted a study skills seminar to assist parents in the ongoing process of helping their children to study effectively.
MARCH
Parent University hosts both a parent talk and student talk with Dr. Patti Agatston on March 14th at 8:30 am in the Glenn Campus Media Center. Dr. Agatston is the co-author of Cyber Bullying: Bullying in the Digital Age. The parent talk will cover numerous issues regarding youth and social media. The middle school students will also have an informative discussion on digital citizenship and online behavior that is considered unkind and can be viewed as bullying.
