After a great season of learning and overcoming adversity, the Mount Vernon swim team not only made it to state but put on quite a show. Competing against the best swimmers in GISA was a lot of pressure, but the Mustangs were able to overcome and turn the intense experience into a tremendous positive. The Mount Vernon JV swimmers took on Georgia’s best and came out on top, bringing home a souvenir for the trophy case. Shayla King, a Mount Vernon senior, captured the state record on her 100-meter freestyle. Shayla’s time was 52.52 seconds, an amazing achievement. For her part, years of dedication and commitment paid off to the fullest.

Overall, the Varsity Girls placed 6th with 40 points, and the Varsity Boys, 8th with 25 points. Remarkably, Sean King was the only MVPS Varsity boy and came in 8th as a team by himself.

JV Girls placed 7th overall with 27 points, and JV Boys won the 1st place state title with 90 points.
