Students who participate in Upper School Chorus are placed in a musical setting that cultivates individual responsibility and shared leadership.

Singing in chorus is one of the most compelling and effective pathways for ensuring 21st century readiness for every student. These skills include critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity and innovation, and are gained through sequential choral music instruction.

Mount Vernon choral students study and practice healthy vocal technique, musicianship, solfege sight reading method, and music theory, and apply their knowledge to a wide variety of repertoire. Mount Vernon’s rigorous chorus literature is selected from a variety of stylistic periods, genres, and cultures appropriate for high school vocal development.

Students are encouraged to innovate by independently creating and performing music, which also enables them to think and act creatively.
