The Upper School Band Program is directed by Chris Moore, Director of Athletic Bands and Coordinator of Percussion Studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Director of the Atlanta Falcons Drumline and House Band.
Mount Vernon’s instrumental music programs provide opportunities for students to increase performance skills and precision on a wind, percussion, or stringed instrument. A variety of instrumental music courses are available and include performance and production, analysis and theoretical studies, historical and cultural contributions and influences, creative aspects of music, and appreciation of music. Each course stresses individual progress, entails learning and group experiences, and strengthens reading skills. Additionally, Mount Vernon features a course entitled Praise Band is designed and offered to equip students to lead worship on a regular basis. The goal for the band is to lead worship at each school chapel and other school and community opportunities, as invited.
