Theatre at Mount Vernon is truly an immersive experience where students have endless opportunities to act, design, build, stage manage and create electrifying experiences like no where else. From Hitchcock to Shakespeare, original plays inspired by podcasts to popular musicals we all know and love, our students are able to tailor their drama experience to suit their passions & interests. Students begin learning about theatre in Kindergarten Performing Arts Class and continue to hone their skills until elective courses become available in Grades 5-12. Whether they are new to theatre or an experienced veteran, students have no shortage of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to flourish in theatre arts.

MUSIC

We are interested in helping students become passionate and professional musicians, which is why we have designed music opportunities that meet the demands of today’s professional world. From concert band to praise band, audio production to vocal collective, our opportunities in music span classical and contemporary genres and empower students to pursuit their passions for a lifetime. Whether that means majoring in music business, instrumental performance, music theatre, or just performing for fun, we strive to empower and equip musicians who have the skills and drive to be successful lifelong music-makers.

Our musicians perform. From travel opportunities that begin in Middle School to weekly performance outlets in chapel, student musicians have many opportunities become confident musicians. From the preschool students who are building Basic Music Competence (BMC) in our Music Together program to the Grade 12 students  who are mixing professional recordings in our recording studio, music is a foundational piece of the Mount Vernon student experience.

DANCE

Our world is and everything on it, is constantly in motion. Research is revealing the power of movement in the classroom and in the workplace more and more each day. At Mount Vernon, we recognize that movement is essential not only as learners, but as artists. Whether it is a 3-year-old in Preschool Ballet, a Grade 7 student in hip-hop dance or a Grade 12 student learning a myriad of dance styles, our dance program is available to every student and is quickly expanding. Rooted in technique, artistic expression, wellness, and confidence, we know that dance can become a part of one's character, enhancing the whole person.
Each day, the world learns how to communicate faster. In an era of texts, posts and updates, we know that people crave instant connection and immediate feedback. Those cravings are satisfied as our students learn how to best communicate with audiences through live music, theater and dance experiences. We are proud to offer an extensive catalogue of courses and extracurricular opportunities in the performing arts but what excites us most is the kind of performance opportunities we are creating.

We show students:
-how performances can intrigue and electrify audiences,
-how our words, notes, and movements can cause others to feel and think,
-and how performers can build an emotional connection with audiences that lasts long after the curtain has closed.

Come check out how Mount Vernon is developing performing artists who are not only passionately developing their craft, but passionately influencing their world.
“Every time I go to a game, I leave with a win or a loss. Every time I go to a performance, I leave with an emotional connection.”
