Mount Vernon Presbyterian School is a community with a passion for service and learning. Our students, staff, and parents participate in a wide array of community service activities throughout the year. Service is more than a line in our mission statement; instead it is a foundational element of our educational program.
Helping Hands Day
To commemorate and honor those that lost their lives on September 11, 2001, Helping Hands Day is a day of school-wide community service. The goal is to provide support to our community while teaching our students the value of selflessness, compassion and responsibility. Students have volunteered at nursing homes, nature preserves, emergency shelters, food banks, children’s hospitals and donation centers, just to name a few. Our students learn that even small hands can make a big difference!
The School holds a variety of collection drives throughout the year that have included supporting our sister school in Zambia, a Toys for Tots drive, canned food drive, blood drive, and a student-selected drive. Students may submit proposals for approval for various collection drives.
