Welcome to Middle School! Fifth Grade is an exciting year of transition and many firsts. Students change classes, experience a block schedule with longer class periods, and get to know a team of teachers. Fifth graders have lockers and their own laptops. With our 1:1 Chromebook program, all students learn keyboarding skills, discover interactive technology such as Google Docs, and utilize more online/digital resources.
Sixth grade is a year of leadership and responsibility as students have the opportunity to serve on the Student Council, act as tour guides and hosts for prospective families, and participate in service learning partnerships. Students make their learning visible and reflect on their progress through self-curated ePortfolios. As a compliment, graders explore the universe in a three day, overnight education trip to Space Camp.
As seventh graders, students explore deeper questions as they transition to the Middle School Academic Building on the Glenn Campus. New opportunities arise, including the options of world language study (French, Latin, or Spanish), and semester-long electives such as art, chorus, digital media, and theatre. Enriching the learning that occurs in the classroom, students travel to Boston to trace the footsteps of the Revolutionary War.
In the culminating year of Middle School, eighth graders assume the role of leadership as they lead the Student Council, serve as ambassadors for group tours, and begin to chart their course through the Upper School with their advisors. Through project-based learning, students discover their passions and curiosities in preparation for Upper School coursework, iProjects, and MVIFI’s Innovation Diploma.
