Honoring the tremendous impact Mount Vernon’s Director of College Counseling has made on students and families, the School recently announced the establishment of the Marsha Powell Fund.
Graduates and families of alumni especially understand Marsha Powell’s influence. As a teacher, Head of Middle School, and Director of College Counseling, Marsha made a difference in the lives of so many families. This spring as she makes plans to retire, the School is taking steps to meaningfully honor her 36 years of service at the School. Through the establishment of The Marsha Powell Fund, Marsha Powell’s influence will last well into the future.
The Marsha Powell Fund will be a need-based scholarship fund designed for Mount Vernon alumni and families of alumni to financially assist Upper School students who otherwise would not be able to attend MVPS.
Providing students and families the financial assistance to afford a Mount Vernon education honors everything Marsha Powell is about. Noted for her love of learning, fairness, and appreciating every student’s individuality, Marsha brings out the best in everyone. Since the beginning of her career with Mount Vernon, students and colleagues have always respected and trusted her leadership.
Like hundreds of families, Mount Vernon’s Past Board Chair and Trustee Emeritus, David Kolb, a parent of two alumni, captures why the Marsha Powell Fund is so significant:
Susan and I will be forever grateful to Marsha Powell for her leadership, wisdom, and influence. She impacted the lives of so many people by identifying their strengths and gifts, and as a result she helped create a close-knit community. The Marsha Powell Fund honors her legacy, and ensures her influence will continue well into Mount Vernon’s future.
