Mount Vernon Presbyterian School is an inclusive Christian environment where students are encouraged to develop their own personal faith and spiritual identity.
Believing that all students are uniquely gifted, the School offers a college preparatory program that challenges, nurtures, and strengthens each student. The Mount Vernon community is composed of diverse racial and religious backgrounds. The Upper School respects the unique value of each community member and encourages its students to become independent thinkers, achieve goals, and be accountable for their actions as future community leaders.
In an effort to foster in students a spirit of Christian stewardship, the Upper School provides a varied program of opportunities to serve others, all of which are centered in Christ’s ministries and teachings. All students participate in grade-level service projects and Helping Hands Day, a school-wide day of service.
Mount Vernon also believes that what happens in the home is most important. Therefore, the Upper School seeks to equip parents with tools to build faith and character in their children, encouraging parents to become engaged in the spirituality of their children and to become partners in ministry. To support parents in this, Mount Vernon provides resources such as parent education seminars, such as Parent University, and a mother’s prayer fellowship.
Additionally, parents are always welcome to participate in weekly chapel services. A community of relationships built on truth creates a nurturing environment in which children can be inspired to pursue excellence, take pride in their work, develop leadership skills and celebrate their achievements.
